Students learn the essential research skills needed for successful academic writing. Through step-by-step instruction and guided practice, they learn how to find and evaluate credible sources, document sources using MLA format, and effectively integrate quotations, paraphrases, and summaries while maintaining their own voice and ideas.

These skills are then applied through the creation of an annotated bibliography, giving students a practical research resource they can use as a foundation for future essays and research assignments. The course also includes instructor-created MLA reference guides for continued use beyond the course.

A complete research essay will not be required in this course. Instead, the focus is on building the research and documentation skills students need to confidently incorporate sources into future academic writing.
